Tesla is reportedly planning to start selling the locally produced Model 3 with a long-range battery in China this week. So far, the Model 3 is only offered in China in the Standard Range + version.
As Bloomberg reports, the new long-range version is expected to cost around 350,000 yuan before the subsidies, the equivalent of about 46,000 euros. This would be less than ten percent more than the current standard range of the 3 + model (323,000 yuan). According to Bloomberg However, the exact price for the long-range Model 3 has yet to be decided. Currently, a state subsidy of 25,000 yuan is added, making the car the equivalent of 3,250 euros cheaper.
According to the NEDC range measurement still in use in China, the range of the model with a large battery is supposed to be 650 kilometers, while the SR + model will have a range of 445 kilometers. It is still unclear whether the new high-end version of the Model 3 will be combined with all-wheel drive in China or whether the rear-wheel drive version will be used which is no longer available in the rest of the world. It is rumored that it could be this latest version – probably also due to the relatively small supplement.
Tesla withdrew the Model 3 Long Range with rear-wheel drive from its lineup in the summer of 2019, but in some markets (such as Germany), this version has never been officially on sale. Customers had to select a four-wheel drive model and then switch Tesla to rear-wheel drive by phone or online. Since then, Tesla has focused on 4-wheel drive models, either dual-engine or performance, for the large battery. This should reduce the complexity of production.
While Shanghai’s Gigafactory 3 has already returned to pre-corona levels with 3000 vehicles a week, construction of Gigafactory number four, Giga-Berlin in Brandenburg, is apparently progressing a little more slowly. According to a report from the local news site PNN ((Potsdamer Neueste Nachrichten), the construction works in Grünheide are somewhat at a standstill. The reason is the necessary corrections to the license application for the plant. Although responsible for certain delays, these do not constitute a threat to the health of the project.
