The Swiss first division soccer team FC Sion has taken a drastic measure because of the corona virus. The club terminated the contracts without notice “for good reasons” and “due to force majeure”. President Christian Constantin: “We are deprived of all our income. We are prohibited from offering them their work and they are prohibited from performing their work.”
According to the newspaper “Blick”, Constantin apparently wanted to get the players’ consent before they quit that they would now work short-time – at the maximum wage stipulated by the unemployment insurance of EUR 11,700. Due to the short deadline, the players would not have signed this letter, the “Blick” said.

According to the current status, short-time work can only be applied for in Switzerland for employers with permanent employment contracts. The vast majority of football players, for example, are not. Contracts in team professional sports are usually concluded for a limited time.
