“Swedbank” warns to beware of “security experts” who demand payment cards and PIN codes

One of the reasons that make it difficult to prevent cases of fraud is the provision of false information to bank employees, the representatives of “Swedbank” explain. When communicating with fraudsters, customers are often influenced not to give honest answers to questions asked by bank employees. Providing accurate information and acting as quickly as possible is very important in clarifying the situation and in efforts to limit the further actions of fraudsters.

“Swedbank” reminds that customers must not hand over their payment cards to other people. Even, for example, when shopping in a store, the seller must ensure the availability of a payment terminal at such a distance that the customer can make the payment himself, instead of handing the payment card to the seller.

If the bank or the customer has doubts about the security of the payment card, it is immediately blocked. A new payment card is ordered at the same time.

Also, bank representatives emphasize that payment cards are never sent by courier – the customer either receives a new payment card in his mailbox or at a bank branch. The payment card does not work until the customer activates it himself. Therefore, even if someone were to remove the delivered payment card from the mailbox, it is not yet valid at that moment.

Also, “Swedbank” reminds that the state law enforcement authorities do not use people’s personal funds, payment cards, cash, or access to ATMs with people’s bank cards for the purposes of investigation.

The bank urges you to be very critical of any invitations from strangers, especially if they are outside of your usual daily routine. Anything related to people’s money, payment cards, devices, personal data cannot be disclosed/disclosed to other people.

Upon receiving such invitations, “Swedbank” invites you to immediately contact your bank and at least try to get the opinion of an alternative source of information.

Some time ago, a new type of fraud appeared, where citizens believed fake police or “state security officers” who cheated citizens out of cash. By teasing customers that the cash should be handed over for “safe keeping” or that it is for “investigative purposes” to supposedly uncover “illegalities”, people themselves put it into the hands of criminals.
