SV Geinsheim is aiming for midfield again

The group league is building on good team spirit again this season. There are two newcomers to the squad. The coaching duo will probably have to intervene on the pitch at the beginning.

GEINSHEIM – With eighth place and 57 points, SV 07 Geinsheim established itself in the first half of the tables in the soccer group league last season. Third-placed VfR Groß-Gerau was only six points short. Florian Auer, coach of the Geinsheimers with Kim Ginkel, expects a tricky season this time: “With five relegations, staying up in the league practically starts with the single-digit rank.” He also rates the league better, especially due to the strong climbers.

The coaching duo sees FCA Darmstadt, SG Langstadt/Babenhausen and district rivals VfR Groß-Gerau as the favorites for promotion. For your own team, on the other hand, the top ranks are not yet an issue. With Alessio De Nunzio (Olympia Biebesheim) and Leohn Hahn (second team) only two players are new to the squad. Stuart Martienz, Marcel Hammann and Thorsten Steinmetz, on the other hand, had to end their careers due to injuries. Jannis Kessler (SV Bischofsheim) and Kevin Petersen (Kickers Mörfelden) have also changed. Philipp von Aichberger is studying in Stockholm.

“We still see ourselves in a good position,” says Auer, but he warns: “We have to score as many points as possible by the end of the year if the season should be canceled after the winter break due to the pandemic.” August and the following games against FC Fürth, SKV Büttelborn and SV Nauheim, Geinsheim has direct opponents who should not belong to the top group either. At the same time, Auer dampens expectations, also because the squad is not complete at the beginning. With 19 field players and two goalkeepers, he is also not big. Therefore, the two coaches will probably be more on the field than on the sidelines in the first few weeks. The Geinsheimers are once again relying on team spirit and are aiming for a good midfield position again.

Auer and Ginkel more on the pitch than off it

The coaching team would have liked a later start to the season. After the past season only ended on June 12, one would have wished for a later start to the season, but the urgently needed break was very short. Due to the short preparation, the risk of injury is greater.

Now that the artificial turf pitch can be played on, Auer and Ginkel see improved training conditions – even in winter, when no more training has to be missed. “But we will primarily train on the grass pitch,” Auer clarifies.
