Alappuzha: The CPM councilor of Alappuzha, who was involved in the drug trafficking controversy, has come forward with allegations against senior leaders. Shanawaz alleged that former minister G. Sudhakaran, Alappuzha CPM district secretary R. Nassar and PP Chittaranjan MLA are conspiring. Shanawaz has given a letter to the Alappuzha North Area Committee clarifying this.
Shahnawaz alleged in the letter that the local leader filed a complaint against him with the police and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seeking investigation into illegal acquisition of property and financial transactions with the knowledge of these three leaders. The letter will also be sent to the central and state leaders of the party. Shanavas, the owner of the vehicle arrested in the Karunagappally drug smuggling case, was earlier suspended from the CPM.
In the first week of January, drugs worth Rs 1 crore smuggled in two lorries and pick-up vans were seized from Kollam Karunagappally. During the inspection conducted by the police, it was found that the vehicle belongs to Shanawasin, a member of the CPM Alappuzha North Area Center and chairman of the municipal welfare standing committee.
As the incident became controversial, action was taken against Shanawaz as per the instructions of the state leadership. Shanawaz explained that he had leased the vehicle to Puthan Purakkal Jayan, a native of Idukki, but the leadership did not take it into account.
