Study: Some Places on the Moon Have Stable Temperatures To Support Human Life

Apparently there are holes and caves on the Moon with temperatures around 17 degrees Celsius (63 F), allowing human survival.

The surface temperature of the moon can reach 126 degrees C (260 F) during the day. At night, temperatures can drop to as low as 137 degrees C (280 F) below zero.

Now, scientists from the University of California,

Los Angeles believes such points of temperature stability could change the route of lunar exploration and pave the way for long-term human habitation.

Researchers believe that the dark areas of these holes can also protect humans from harmful elements such as solar radiation, cosmic rays, and micrometeorites.

Currently, human research and residence on the Moon is not simple, for one night or one day is equivalent to about two weeks on Earth, and humans face difficulties in such hot and cold temperatures.

According to the head of the study, Tyler Horvath, about 16 of the 200 holes found came from collapsed lava tubes, which are tunnels made of cooled lava or crust.

Scientists think that this overhang in the moon’s vent (first discovered in 2009) could explain the steady temperature.

Also on the research team were UCLA professors David Paige and Paul Hayne of the University of Colorado Boulder.

Scientists used images from NASA’s Diviner Lunar Radiometer Experiment to assess fluctuations in lunar vents and surface temperatures. “Humans evolved to live in caves, and to caves we probably went back to when we lived on the moon,” Paige said in a UCLA press release.
