STRASBOURG. Students in the street this Wednesday

The Solidaires Students Alsace and Sud Éducation Alsace unions are organizing a demonstration in Strasbourg on Wednesday January 20 to demand the improvement of study conditions and the resumption of face-to-face lessons.

Trade unions want to enable students, deprived of contact with their teachers, of social life and isolated, to make their voices heard. “Students commit suicide, 12% have suicidal thoughts, 74% say they are in financial difficulty when leaving confinement and a third of them have given up on care for this reason”, explain the organizers. This action, entitled “We want to live and study with dignity”, will begin at 1 pm with a rally at Place de la République. At 1:30 p.m., protesters will march in a procession to the central campus.

New mobilization on January 26

A second call for student mobilization was launched for January 26 by 34 student collectives, associations and unions. These organizations will call on students from all over France to take to the streets to demand the improvement of their study conditions, measures to fight against student insecurity as well as a real government plan on mental health. The organizers, like the Alternative, Latest deconfined or even Generation Covid want to show that they are not satisfied with “a few crumbs and ad effects” but demand that “the government stops its infantilizing policy and really takes care students while suicides have increased in recent weeks ”.
