The police in Schiphol were astonished when they found a man in the nose wheel housing of a cargo plane. Even greater was the surprise when the man turned out to be still alive. The fire brigade determined that he was hypothermic and took him to the hospital. His age and nationality are not yet known. Due to the cold temperatures and the low oxygen content at high altitudes, the chance of survival is very small.
It is not yet clear where the man got on board. The plane came from Johannesburg and probably made a stop in Nairobi in Kenya. The man was discovered around 11 a.m. at the airport in Amsterdam, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee reports. He may have been stuck in the spot for eight hours.
In 2016, a stowaway was also found at Brussels Airport in the landing gear of an aircraft coming from Senegal. The man did not survive the flight.
