Storm Monica Death Investigations Unfold in Gard: Autopsies Set to Begin Monday

The public prosecutor of Gard, Cécile Gensac, announced the opening of several investigations after the death of three people during storm Monica this weekend. Three other people are missing in this department hit by deadly floods, and a fourth in Ardèche. They “aim to determine the exact circumstances of the engulfments and deaths in this context of exceptional climatic episode”.

According to initial testimonies, the three deceased people tried to cross submersible bridges over flooded rivers. In Gagnières, the vehicle had taken this passage while the road was closed to traffic. A country guard would have directly asked the driver not to engage in it, without being listened to. One of the two people managed to escape from the vehicle, the other was unable to exit the vehicle which was swept away by the waves.

Autopsies starting this Monday

In Goudargues, two women died in their car. “The investigations are carried out on the head of worrying disappearances at the stage of the search for missing persons, then on the head of research into the causes of death from the discovery of deceased persons,” specifies the prosecutor.

The autopsies of the deceased will be carried out starting this Monday at the Nîmes forensic institute. “Scientific investigations will aim to confirm the identity of the people found as well as the exact cause of death. »
