Stolen Car Gift Bittersweet: Wife’s Birthday Surprise Turns Ngenes

Jakarta

Anyone will definitely try to give the best for the people they care about. This is what this man from the United States also tried to do to his wife. But what if it doesn’t have a happy ending?

According to the India Times, a man named Jason Scott originally intended to surprise his wife in the form of a luxury car. He then bought a used Maserati SUV in 2021.

The car was purchased from Carvana, a car buying and selling business in North Carolina. At first everything was fine until Scott finally brought his luxury car for a routine maintenance check.

Scott took his car to the nearest Maserati dealer in February. From the examination, a surprising fact was revealed that shocked him.

After the mechanic checked the vehicle identification number, it was discovered that the car was not a 2021 Maserati, but a 2017 Maserati. Not only that, the parts in the car were also inappropriate, which then raised suspicions.

When the technician checked the VIN number on the chassis, it was discovered that the car was stolen. Apparently the VIN on the windows and doors of the car are different. Because of this, Scott’s car was reported and confiscated by the police.

Feeling cheated, Scott sued the thrift website where he bought the car for compensation of IDR 15 billion for his financial and reputational losses. Previously, Scott claimed that he had been cheated of Rp. 1 billion.

The used car buying and selling business itself admits that it does not know if the car is stolen. According to reports, the car dealer is now trying to return the money Scott spent on buying the car. The North Carolina Attorney General’s office is currently investigating Carvana regarding the report.
