Dresden (dpa / sn) – The Saxon state parliament wants to deal with the current situation in the corona crisis today. The government wants to submit a report on this. A debate between the political groups is then planned. After a video conference between the country leaders and Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), the Saxon cabinet discussed further measures to contain the pandemic on Tuesday evening. The new Corona Protection Ordinance, which will apply until the end of January, is to be adopted on Friday.

In addition, the members of parliament discuss the state government’s draft for the state budget for 2021/2022 in plenary. The budget will be discussed in the committees over the next few months. The final vote is expected to take place in May. Despite forecast tax shortfalls, the government wants to keep the expenditure level constant at around 21 billion euros per year. A € 6.75 billion fund was set up to deal with the consequences of the pandemic. Saxony accepts up to six billion euros in new debts for this.

At the beginning of the session, President of the State Parliament Matthias Rößler wants to give a New Year’s address. His traditional New Year reception will not take place this year due to the pandemic.
