In the Czech Republic, on the night from Sunday to Monday at midnight, the national emergency came into force again. The government decided to do so as a result of the sharp increase in the number of corona infections.

The state of emergency allows the government, among other things, to restrict civil rights such as freedom of assembly and to take measures without the consent of parliament.

The state of emergency was also in effect from mid-March to mid-May. Unlike then, the borders will remain open this time. For events and meetings, a maximum of 10 people inside and 20 outside applies. Professional sport has to do without spectators. Nevertheless, there are many exceptions and businesses and shops have not been affected.

On Friday, a new peak in daily corona infections was reached in the Czech Republic with 3,792 new cases. Figures from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) show that in the Czech Republic, an average of 303.3 people per 100,000 inhabitants became infected with the virus in the past 14 days. Only Spain (319.3) is currently doing worse.
