Tyrese Haspil, 21, has been charged with the murder of entrepreneur Fahim Saleh, New York police chief investigator Rodney Harrison said at a press briefing.

Although the 33-year-old victim was found beheaded and dismembered on Tuesday in his apartment, investigation established that he had been assaulted a day earlier by his assistant, who tasered him after following him around. the elevator leading directly to his Manhattan home, the official said.

Mr. Haspil was Mr. Saleh’s personal assistant, responsible for his finances and personal affairs, he added.

The investigator gave no further details about the murder or its motives, simply stating that Mr. Haspil owed Mr. Saleh “a substantial sum of money”.

According to New York media reports, police found in the apartment – which the entrepreneur from a Bangladeshi family had recently acquired for some $ 2.2 million – a power saw, which the killer allegedly left at the scene of crime.

Fahim Saleh, who said in a post on the Medium site that he started out by launching an application for making telephone hoaxes, chaired the company Gokada, a two-wheeler sharing and home delivery application in Nigeria.

According to his Twitter and Instagram accounts, he was also the co-founder of a venture capital firm, Adventure Capital, which specializes in digital services designed to “make life better” in developing countries.

His murder comes amid a recent rise in crime in New York, including 203 murders since January, an increase of 23% compared to the same period in 2019.
