KOMPAS.com – interim CEO Starbucks Howard Schultz announced a new salary increase and benefits for employees.
But union employee shop will be excluded from some of these changes.
“The new salary and benefits changes will apply to outlets where Starbucks has the right to make these changes unilaterally,” the company said in a statement. The Hill.

That right does not apply in “shops where there is” labor union or trade union organization.”
“The company said it would invest nearly $1 billion this fiscal year in initiatives such as salary increases, training and modern collaboration and store innovation,” said Tuesday’s announcement.
But for locations that are unionized or are in the process of unification, Starbucks said it would stick with the wage increase it announced earlier in October.
At the time, the company had said it would increase its hourly rate to an average of nearly $17/hour, with a new range of $15-23 for baristas in the summer of 2022.

Other benefits such as expanded training, increased sick leave and credit card tipping will also not apply to union locations, reports NPR.
Schultz explained that companies do not have the same freedom to make repairs in locations that have unions or where union organizing is taking place.
In a tweet, Starbucks Workers United said they had filed a lawsuit against Howard Schultz’s threat that union stores would not receive these benefits.
“That’s not how labor laws work and Starbucks knows it,” the tweet claims.
