Star wants to annoy vegans, falls ill because of meat consumption – People

In protest against vegans, James Blunt ate only meat for a few weeks until a doctor diagnosed vitamin C deficiency.

The right way of life should no longer be a problem for him: James Blunt is one of the most successful musicians in Great Britain. The 46-year-old has sold more than 20 million records and regularly plays in sold-out stadiums and arenas.

Healthy eating wasn’t always the case for him. During his studies, the singer-songwriter fell downright ill, as he revealed in the podcast “Table Manners”. In it, Jessie Ware invites various guests to her home and chats with them about food, their family and other private topics.

Symptoms of Scurvy

In this context, Blunt told a story from his university days. The musician studied aerospace engineering and sociology in Bristol. An interesting combination: While there were 187 men for three women in engineering, the ratio in sociology was exactly the opposite. “And all women were vegetarians or vegans,” said Blunt. As a matter of principle, he therefore decided to become a carnivore.

However, that did not go well for long. After just six weeks he got sick and went to the doctor. He diagnosed the young man with symptoms of scurvy, which was caused by the lack of vitamin C.

Blunt now tried to combat the vitamin deficiency by taking in food – and thus caused new problems. From now on he drank a liter of orange juice every evening, as he says on the podcast. But that didn’t work for him: The singer of later hits like “You’re Beautiful” fell ill with gastroesophageal reflux, the backflow of stomach contents into the esophagus, which caused severe heartburn. Ultimately, he had to give up his experiment. Today he says: “Diet is not necessarily my strength.”
