Two men, aged 56 and 34, were seriously injured on Friday afternoon in a stabbing on Jan Borghoutsplein in Bergen op Zoom. It happened at the Adriano House, an institution for people with serious behavioral problems and intellectual disabilities. The police arrested a 39-year-old Bergenaar as a suspect. He is a resident of the institution
Initially, the police reported that there was one victim, later it turned out that another person had been stabbed. Police said the two victims were seriously injured but not life-threatening. The arrested suspect was overpowered by bystanders and construction workers. He was then taken to the police station.
Victim assistance for bystanders
Victim support has been called in for people who saw the stabbing happen. “If you see something like this happen, it is very intense. That has a lot of impact,” says the police spokesperson.
Emergency services, including a trauma helicopter, were called. Police are investigating what led up to the stabbing.
