Motorsport: Bad MotoGP restart for Bendsneyder
sport">02.04 pm: Motorcycle racer Bo Bendsneyder has had little fun with the restart of the World Championship in Moto2. The Rotterdammer crashed after seven laps in the Grand Prix of Spain on the Jerez circuit and dropped out.
sport">Italian Luca Marini triumphed in Jerez, where the Moto2 riders only finished their second race of the year. After opening in March in Qatar, the corona virus caused a long interruption. After a few laps, Marini took the lead over Spaniard Jorge Martin and managed to hold the first position until the finish. The Japanese Tetsuta Nagashima passed second.
sport">Bendsneyder had hopefully finished eleventh in Qatar, but in Jerez the Dutchman lacked speed. He qualified 22nd for the race, so things quickly went wrong. The dropout means 0 points for the championship.
Athletics: Foppen improves over twenty years old Dutch record at 5 kilometers
sport">12.36 pm: Mike Foppen has sharpened the Dutch record in the 5 kilometers to 13.31 minutes in a ‘secret’ run away in the Goffertpark in Nijmegen. He improved Kamiel Maase’s 13.46 from 1997. Noah Schutte scored 13.35 in the game, which was purposely stopped just before the start on Sunday morning to avoid crowds of visitors.
sport">Foppen finished second in the race, behind Spaniard Ouassim Oumaiz, who ran a Spanish record of 13.19. Schutte passed third, ahead of Benjamin de Haan (13.41). Maureen Koster won the women’s race in 15.25, a big personal best.
Golf: Rahm beckons to historical rankings
sport">09.35 am: Jon Rahm is firmly in charge of The Memorial after three rounds. The Spaniard leads the prestigious tournament from the American PGA four strokes ahead of his first pursuers. If Rahm manages to win the tournament, he will also be the new leader in the world rankings.
sport">Rahm completed the third round on the Muirfield Village golf course in Dublin, Ohio in 68 strokes, 4 under par. He came out to a total of -12 and is four strokes apart from the Americans Tony Finau and Ryan Palmer, who -8. That duo led after the second round, but delivered a lot in the third round along the eighteen holes.
sport">Rahm replaces Rory McIlroy as number 1 in the global ranking after a victory in The Memorial. The Northern Irishman shares the twelfth place in The Memorial with -2 and has almost no chance of winning. For Rahm, reaching the top spot in the world rankings is an almost sacred mission. He will then be joined by his legendary countryman Seve Ballesteros, the only Spaniard to have succeeded so far.
