The law, passed by the Spanish Senate, will give local municipalities the power to ban smoking on the beach to reduce pollution from cigarette butts. This measure was amended by the Green Party. For violation of the order, a fine of two thousand euros is provided.

In addition to smoking, the document prohibits the use of disposable bags on beaches and the removal of asbestos from buildings. At the same time, it contains incentives for residents of the country to return empty containers, such as bottles, back to the store.

According to the newspaper, the policy of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is aimed at protecting the environment. On his initiative, the authorities intend to make the country carbon-neutral by 2050.
