In Spain, 261 new Covid-19-related deaths were reported on Tuesday, the highest number of victims of the new coronavirus in 24 hours since April, the Ministry of Health said.

The sudden increase in the number of deaths can be explained by the delayed receipt of data from the country’s regions, said a spokesman for the Ministry of Health.
Spain has seen a new increase in Covid-19 infections in recent weeks, with Madrid becoming a hotspot. More than 12,000 new infections were registered on Tuesday, including more than 40% in Madrid.
The Spanish federal government on Friday imposed strict quarantine on Madrid for two weeks, despite objections from the regional government. During this time, people are not allowed to leave the capital or come there without good reason.
The quarantine also applies to nine suburbs of Madrid.
In Spain, 32,486 people have died since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, a smaller number than in Britain or Italy.
