Sources of Vitamin D Apart from Sunlight

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

There are many sources vitamin D that can be obtained by the body other than sunlight, one of which is from food. Several types of food are known to contain vitamin D which is good for the body, here are some of them.

Many people take vitamin D supplements and bask in the sun for a long time during the Covid-19 pandemic. This is done to get the body’s immunity to avoid the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Sunbathing can indeed help the formation of vitamin D in the body. But actually sunbathing is not enough to meet the daily needs of vitamin D. In addition, sunbathing is also not recommended for a long time, experts suggest that only 10-15 minutes is enough.

Keep in mind that vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin. That is, the body needs fat to be able to process vitamin D for its function to be achieved. In the body, vitamin D functions to absorb calcium minerals, help strengthen bones and teeth, help form the immune system, to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

In addition to sunbathing, the body can actually get vitamin D from food. An internal medicine specialist at Premier Bintaro Hospital, Ariska Sinaga, said the body can already get its daily vitamin D needs from food.

“A person’s daily requirement of vitamin D is 400-800 International Units [IU] per day, this daily need can be obtained from food,” said Ariska when contacted CNNIndonesia.com, recently.

So actually for healthy people do not need to take vitamin D because their daily needs can be obtained from food. Just make sure the food you eat is healthy, nutritious, and contains vitamin D.
