“Sony unveils new streaming console ‘Project Q’ for PS5 games”

Sony finally showing off handheld console the newest one is named Project Q. But this console is not a reincarnation of the PlayStation Portable or PlayStation Vita.

Project Q is a console that focuses on streaming games. Sony says with this device gamers can stream non-VR games from the console PlayStation 5 using Remote Play over Wi-Fi.

“Internally known as ‘Project Q’, this console has an 8-inch HD screen and all the buttons and features of the DualSense wireless controller,” said Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan at the PlayStation Showcase, as quoted by The Verge, Thursday (25/5 /2023).

Specifically, this console will have a PCD screen with 1080p resolution that can play games at 60fps frame rate. The console will also feature all of the features found on the DualSense controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.

According to the footnote in the presentation Sony, games that you want to play on Project Q must be installed on the PS5 console first. The device is designed as a companion to the PS5, not a console that can play games natively like the Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch.

Even though cloud gaming is starting to become a trend, Project Q can’t stream games directly from the cloud, so it can’t be compared to other consoles like Logitech G Cloud or Razer Edge.

But Sony seems to be overhauling its cloud gaming service judging by the available job openings. So it’s not impossible that Project Q will support cloud gaming in the future.

Unfortunately, Sony has not disclosed the price yet Project Q when launched. This console will be launched this year, but Sony did not say a specific date.

While waiting for Project Q to be released, PS5 users can actually stream games from consoles to their mobile devices with the Remote Play feature. With this feature, PS5 games can be played on Android, iPhone, Windows and Mac devices.
