SNCB cuts trains to the Côte

“After an analysis of the number of visitors who have come to the Coast in recent weeks, it seems that the municipalities served by the train have reached saturation in terms of the number of tourists, which does not allow them to guarantee at all times the health security and compliance with the measures applicable in the context of the Covid “, points out for its part the office of the Minister of Mobility, François Bellot.

For the next weekend of August 15, a precise number of daily travelers per coastal municipality will be established, depending on the size of the seaside resort: 10,000 visitors for Ostend, 6,000 for Blankenberge, 2,000 for Knokke-Heist, 4,000 for Zeebrugge and 2,000 for De Panne, according to figures provided by the cabinet.

In addition, the occupancy rate of each train may not exceed 80%. The SNCB will be responsible for ensuring that this threshold is respected, and the police will be called in to assist in the major stations.

SNCB will quickly set up adequate communication so that passengers are informed of the situation in real time. The adapted offer will be communicated on Friday on the various channels of the railway company.

These measures will be assessed on Monday and the governor will decide next Tuesday whether they should be renewed, the cabinet concludes.
