Smartwatch Shipments Rise Throughout 2020, Apple Top Page all

KOMPAS.com – Despite being hit by the Covid-19 pandemic over the past year, market share smartwatch reportedly grew thin in 2020.

At least that’s how the market research firm reports Counterpoint Research. In a report released recently, Counterpoint noted delivery smartwatch global in 2020, up 1.5 percent from the previous year.

Total shipments of smart watches from the top five vendors smartwatch in 2020, it was recorded to reach 66.6 million units. This number is up slightly from the 2019 shipments which were recorded at 59.6 million units.

In the fourth quarter of 2020, Counterpoint reported that Apple controlled 40 percent of the market share smartwatch globally with a total shipment of 12.9 million units.

The Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE devices released in the fourth quarter of 2020 are said to have performed well and contributed to this result.

In second place, vendors from China, Huawei trailed Apple with 26 percent growth.

Despite being in second place, Huawei posted the highest growth among other vendors. Total delivery smartwatch Huawei reportedly hit 11.1 smartwatch units.

While the other three vendors, Samsung, BBK, and Fitbit, recorded a decrease in the number of shipments throughout 2020.

Samsung edged down by 1 percent from 2019. Meanwhile, BBK who was in fourth position fell significantly by 9 percent. In 2019 BBK shipped as many as 7.2 million units of smart watches, however, in 2020 it fell to 6.6 million units.

Counterpoint Senior Analyst Sujeong Lim, said the selling price was average smartwatch increased in 2020.

He explains, the price segment smartwatch the largest in 2019 is in the price range of 101-200 US dollars (around IDR 1.4-2.8 million). In 2020, this segment will shrink 7 percent.

“Meanwhile, the more premium segment with a price range of 300 US dollars (around Rp 4.2 million) and above will grow by 8 percent in 2020,” said Lim.

According to Lim, this shift is being driven by devices launched by three premium brands namely Apple, Samsung and Huawei.
