Smack, a future Quimper food truck in an American-style caravan – Quimper

The two young men are passionate, one of cooking, the other of entrepreneurship. They met on a trip to Australia. With the covid, their project to open a restaurant has turned into a food truck, which they plan to open in mid-May, in Quimper, in a large American caravan. Magnificent !

“The Smack Brothers”

Mickaël Brault, 26, originally from Rennes, studied at the hotel school in Dinard, with a mention of restaurant desserts. A follower of “accessible, healthy and local cuisine”, he has worked in various types of establishments, from gastronomic to brasserie and trade, with the dream of one day opening his own restaurant. Romain Barré, 29, is “more in development”. After agricultural studies, he spent two and a half years in Velozen, specialist in electric bikes, first in the store in Brest then by going up the store on avenue Ti Douar, in Quimper. In March 2019, he set off for new adventures and became a real estate dealer.

With Mickaël, they joined forces to create Smack. Which means ? “Kiss, hug… It’s a snub to the situation we’re living in right now. We are like brothers ”, they explain. Their website should also be called “Smackbros”, like the Smack brothers!

An American tôlée from 1969

Their dream began to come true when they unearthed the machine in the South of France: an American sheet metal from 1969, 7 m long and 2.30 m wide, and three tons. “It was already used as a food truck, so there is a beginning of development, confides Mickaël. It is a beautiful object which will offer all the necessary working comfort ”. However, there is still work to be done to make it “rolling” and above all up to standards. And we still have to find around € 20,000 for a vehicle capable of towing it, “at least 180 HP”, specifies Romain. For this, they will use a participatory financing (or crowdfunding), at the beginning of April.

For the type of catering, they focus on “mainly midday snacking”, local, seasonal products and everything homemade, possibly at tourist sites and summer events. For “an affordable average ticket”, they will offer burgers, pancakes, bowls (complete dishes in one bowl, very trendy at the moment), brunches… They are also fans of “healthy food”. Because even on the go, you can eat healthy.
