Sjoerd Sjoerdsma plays a very dirty game – The Daily Standard

Always nice to see how the Russians hit back when a Dutch Russia hater in the House of Representatives caused a new controversy. Moscow does not wait, but immediately goes into the counterattack. Rightly so. What happened here is ridiculous.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded on the fuss that originated in The Hague after it became known that D66 MP Sjoerd Sjoerdsma is not welcome in the country. A delegation from the Chamber would visit Moscow, but that is now completely canceled. My fellow MPs think it’s all that bad.

Russia is now responding by stating that the inclusion of Sjoerdsma in the delegation was clearly a deliberate provocation. Sjoerdsma, according to the Kremlin, has been speaking aggressively about Russia for years. His statements would even be “on the verge of being insulting”.

Russia mentions Sjoerdsma’s plea for the end of the “Netherlands-Russia Friendship Year in 2013, his demand that the Olympic Games in Sochi be boycotted in 2014, and – oh yes – his ‘request’ that the 2018 World Cup Russia had to be relocated to another country.

Because Russia is finished with the blind hatred of Sjoerdsma, the country already told the Dutch agent in Moscow on 14 January that he would not be welcome. That is why it was suggested to leave him at home – to simply put another delegation together so that it didn’t have to be a scandal.

But no, the House of Representatives did not want that. “Despite our warnings, they deliberately continued with this provocation, while fully understanding what the possible consequences could be. They were looking for a scandal rather than a constructive discussion about ways to rectify Russian-Dutch relations, “Said the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

You don’t have to be a Putin fanboy to see that Moscow is 100 percent right in this. The Hague clearly played a very dirty game. The confrontation was deliberately sought, after which those raunchy opportunists cried huge crocodile tears when Russia stood firm.
