Lingard never made an appearance for United for Ferguson, but he coached with the first team for the last few years under the legendary coach and was named to some teams without having a chance to play.
Moyes worked briefly with Lingard during his time at Old Trafford, playing as a midfielder in preseason friendlies before coming out on loan for the season.
The 28-year-old got off to a great start in life at West Ham after joining on loan until the end of the season. Lingard scored a double on his Aston Villa debut and will be back in the squad against Sheffield United on Monday after missing out on the FA Cup loss to their parent club midweek.
Moyes has revealed that United’s great Ferguson has reached out to say that he is keeping an eye on Lingard.

Moyes said, “He’s only here for the short term, but I’ve already spoken to Sir Alex, who asked me to do my best for Jesse; He mentioned that he was thinking about him because Sir Alex had him as a kid at Old Trafford. .
And then when I was there, I had a bit of it at the beginning as well.
“That just shows the interest Sir Alex has in all the young players he had, all his teams and all his clubs. He shows great interest in them and was glad that Jesse was off to a good start.
The West Ham coach hopes that the winning mentality that players like Ferguson will have instilled in Lingard over the years will help his team as they seek to stay on track in the race for Europe.
Moyes has the Hammers in the mix in the top six, but with a test run after Sheffield United, the Scotsman is not commenting on where they will finish yet with high expectations after a brilliant start.

“In a weird way, I think when you move up in the league people expect more,” Moyes said. ‘All I hear is about the Champions League and European football. It is part of a coach’s job to create expectations.
“I think when you enter a soccer club, your job is to do that. At the same time, you should try to control expectations because you don’t want people to get carried away.
“I would love to go out and say ‘we’re in the mix for this.’
“I think we are in a great position, but until we get to the single-digit games that remain, we can’t say that. And we are in that most difficult period of matches during the next month. But we are really happy and the players have been brilliant.
