Extreme violence in schools is rare in Singapore, a country known for its low crime rate and rule-abiding that considers itself one of the safest places in the world.

Police will prosecute the perpetrator, who is known to be 16 years old with murder and seek a court order to detain him for psychiatric evaluation.

Singapore Education Minister Chan Chun Sing admitted he was shocked by the incident. He said his ministry was working with police in the investigation.
