shop stormed by an angry crowd

Yesterday the Yodobashi Camera shop in Akihabara – an area of Tokyo famous for its numerous stores specializing in video games, electronics and anime – received a large amount of stock of PlayStation 5: at the moment of the morning opening, however, the situation has literally degenerated.

The poor organization together with the great hunger for next-gen shared by Japanese gamers, who for the occasion have abandoned their traditional composure, have generated the most total chaos, with a messy crowd of people that invaded the shop without respecting the slightest norm of social distancing and ignoring the ticket system made available by Yodobashi to avoid crowding. The event was documented with a mobile phone by one of those present at the crowd, as you can see yourself in the video attached at the bottom of this news. The situation returned to normal only after the involvement of the police, who went to the scene to avoid the recurrence of the riots. According to one of those present, the crowd also featured several resellers and scalpers, whose goal was to buy PS5s to resell at a higher price.

At the moment, PlayStation 5 is very difficult to find anywhere in the world, and most likely it will be for a very long time. According to Lisa Wu, CEO of AMD – the company that produces the internal components of the console – the shortage will last until the second half of 2021. This means that, unfortunately, such scenes could recur in the future.
