Dagitate Turner, 53, underwent brain surgery at King’s College Hospital in London.
THE direction from the hospital unit made sure to capture the images of the operation – which you can see in the gallery – since the patient was awake playing the violin.
Dagmar had to undergo surgery to remove a tumor. But instead of being given general anesthesia, the patient was awake during the procedure and playing the violin. In this way, surgeons were able to ensure that the parts of the brain that control hand movements and coordination were not compromised.
The woman had been diagnosed with the tumor in 2013, after suffering a seizure. Mass tumor was located in the right frontal lobe of the brain, close to a area which controls the fine motor skills of the left hand.
