NEW YORK – Powerful winds in the tri-state area Sunday night have generated tornado watches for a large number of counties in and around New York City.

A tornado watch was issued Sunday night for Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Bergen, Fairfield, The Bronx and New York County; all warnings ended at 10:00 pm

The rest of New York City, the Hudson Valley, and northern New Jersey received severe thunderstorm warnings until 9:45 p.m.

The storm line will move from west to east, entering the region around 6 p.m. and moving east off Long Island around 11 p.m.

Parts of the tri-state area were subjected to a severe thunderstorm watch until 2:00 a.m.

Those in the Tri-State area should prepare for potential tree falls and power lines that can bring blackouts.
