A 72-year-old man who warned US authorities before and after the 2020 presidential election that he planned to kill Donald Trump was arrested Monday morning. That’s according to the Brooklyn federal prosecutor.

Thomas Welnicki “deliberately and deliberately threatened to kill, kidnap and inflict bodily harm on the former US president,” a document released Monday said. The suspect, who was arrested by Secret Service agents, was due to appear in court on Monday.

The man is said to have called the Secret Service office in New York at least three times, between September 24 and December 2, 2021, to announce his plans. He inquired about Trump’s protection and stated that he had a firearm. “I’ll do everything I can to make sure he’s dead,” the New Yorker warned. He called Trump “Hitler” in a phone call in November 2021.

The seventy-year-old had already made threats in the summer of 2020, before the presidential elections. Then he did it to the Capitol Police Department in Washington. He would “take down” Trump if he lost the election and did not admit defeat.

On January 4, 2021, two days before the storming of the Capitol, the suspect left two messages on the voicemail of the Secret Service office in Long Island, another New York district. He threatened to kill Trump and 12 members of Congress.
