Security. “Rebuilding the link between young people and the police”

“The goal of Prox’aventure is to recreate the link between law enforcement, emergency services… and youth. To get out of this degraded image that some of these functions may have ”, explains Dany Fertig, head of the educational service Apsis-Emergence. For a Wednesday afternoon – and the only ray of sunshine of the week – Place André-Malraux has traded in its parking function to dress in tents and other inflatable structures. Between the ringing of trucks and motorcycles, testing of equipment or a football match, children and adolescents were able to meet representatives of the police (national and municipal), the army, firefighters, but also the road safety and sports associations. “This is the first edition of this meeting in Thionville, and it is thanks to the combined efforts of the police, the associations Apsis-Emergence and Planet Adventure as well as the municipality that it was able to see the light of day, ”adds the manager.

” Sowing seeds “

As a young girl dons a CRS suit for a short run, a small group drinks the words of a police officer describing the “safety pat-down” technique. “You see a lot in the movies of people tapping their hands to see if a suspect has weapons. It’s no use, ”describes the man to his audience. A little further on, the arming of the police with the possibility of learning a little more about the prerequisites for becoming a police officer.

“We place ourselves in the wake of the summer actions that we have carried out. There is a real desire for partnership between prevention players such as Apsis-Emergence and the police. It is together that we must work on this aspect of prevention and on education, ”comments Jean-Marc Vaccaro, police-population cohesion delegate. Thus, behind the meetings and exchanges established with visitors, there is also the hope of arousing vocations. “To sow seeds”, illustrates a representative of the Metz Armed Forces Information and Recruitment Center.

After trying boxing, a teenager admits not thinking about getting involved, but “it’s good if it can create vocations”. A little further on, the young girl has finished trying on the CRS armor. She openly says that she is not a big fan of law enforcement, but realizes the weight of the equipment and the hardships it entails, “it’s exhausting to carry,” she smiles. An awareness that also touches her friend who adds that “it’s difficult to be in the police”.
