Second autopsy reveals: George Floyd died of asphyxiation Abroad

They listed other health problems in combination with drug use and the struggle with the police as causes.

But the independent coroner does see suffocation as the cause of death. “Floyd’s death was caused by asphyxiation from neck and back compression that resulted in too little blood flowing to his brain,” ABC quotes the autopsy report.

Murder

The independent physicians feel that the weight on his back, the handcuffs and his position contributed to Floyd’s death because they reduced the ability of his diaphragm, the diaphragm, to function. According to the report, 46-year-old Floyd already died where he was arrested and not in the hospital, as previously believed. The doctors who performed the autopsy call it murder.

The autopsy was performed by Michael Baden and Allecia Wilson. Baden previously investigated the deaths of Eric Garner, who died after being hard-hit in an arrest, and the deaths of Michael Brown, who was shot and killed by officers in Missouri.

“My brother’s mind”

Floyd died after police officer Derek Chauvin held his knee to his neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds upon his arrest. Bystanders filmed the incident and asked the agents to release Floyd. He said he couldn’t breathe. The last almost three minutes, Floyd gave no sign of life. His death was later determined in the hospital. His death has sparked major protests against police brutality and racism across the U.S.

Whether the new autopsy report will be used in the case against the now-fired agent Derek Chauvin is not yet known. In the US, it is not common for victims in criminal cases to collect evidence themselves. The prosecutor may choose to have the report included in the evidence.

On Monday, Terrence Floyd visited the place where his brother died. He wanted to feel “my brother’s spirit.”
