RB Leipzig recaptured third place in the Bundesliga on Monday. The ‘Roten Bullen’ won in an amusing match 2-4 at 1. FC Köln. During the match, Cologne striker Anthony Modeste expressed support for George Floyd.
Leipzig was already behind in Cologne after seven minutes due to a shot from the rebound by Jhon Córdoba. Fifteen minutes later, Patrik Schick restored balance with a header and before half-time visitors were led by a marker by Christopher Nkunku.
The start of the second half yielded no less than three goals in twelve minutes. Timo Werner first rounded off a counter from Leipzig, after which Modeste brought back the tension via a beautiful long shot. Dani Olmo widened the margin a little later and thereby determined the final score.
After his goal, Modeste made a statement against racism by holding the lighter palm of one hand and the outside of his other hand side by side. He thereby expressed his support for Floyd, the unarmed black man who was killed last week by police brutality.

More expressions of support to Floyd during the weekend
It was not the first tribute to Floyd during this round in the Bundesliga. Last weekend, the Borussia Dortmund duo Jadon Sancho and Achraf Hakimi showed a shirt that reads ‘Justice for George’, Schalke 04 midfielder Weston McKennie wore a special bracelet and knelt Marcus Thuram after his goal for Borussia Mönchengladbach. The German Football Association investigated these statements.
Thanks to the victory, RB Leipzig takes over third place again from Borussia Mönchengladbach, which has two points less. The backlog at number two Borussia Dortmund is also two points. Cologne, with Kingsley Ehizibue remaining on the bench, can be found in the middle bracket.
