Status: 01/28/2021 8:46 p.m.

What do the students do who have to graduate in Corona times? Minister Prien has now informed about the plans in Schleswig-Holstein.

A way back to classroom teaching for as many students as possible – this is what the further development of the Corona Response Plan, which comes into force on February 15, is all about. Education Minister Karin Prien (CDU) informed about the specific plans on Thursday. She emphasized that when returning to face-to-face teaching, the incidence values for the entire country and the dynamics of the infection process would be included. The seven-day incidence of 50 represents an important turning point: If this value is not reached, face-to-face lessons in regular Corona operations are planned again in all grades, taking into account the hygiene rules. In grades 7 to 13, however, initially as alternating lessons, unless they are final classes. In any case, there will be face-to-face offers for the graduating classes, said Prien.

Ministry of Education wants to announce levels in good time

The Minister of Education emphasized that the stages will be decided with scientific advice and the decision on the entry into force of a stage of the Corona response plan will be announced by the Ministry of Education one week before it comes into force.

Schleswig-Holstein is sticking to exams for ESA

Prien also informed the schools about the adjustments to the final exams for the first general school leaving certificate (ESA), the middle school leaving certificate (MSA) and the Abitur. The Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) agreed on a framework for the final exams in 2021 last week. “For the Abitur exams in Schleswig-Holstein we use the catalog of measures that has been decided in the KMK,” said Prien and added: “In contrast to other countries such as Hamburg, Bremen or Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein holds the exams for the ESA. “

For the ESA and the MSA, the pupils will receive intensive and targeted preparation for the written examination subjects from March 1st. In addition, the number of written examinations is reduced, the processing time is extended and, if desired, another oral examination is made possible, which can only be used to improve.

Targeted preparation time for high school graduates

Additional support is also provided for high school graduates. This includes, for example, specific preparation time for the exams. The choice of tasks will be increased, and an extension of the processing time in the exams is planned. “But we must not lose sight of those who are suffering from high psychological stress as a result of the pandemic. For these students, we will enable voluntary repetition in individual cases and after consultation for all years. The Corona repetition year is not counted, it has so no impact on the maximum length of stay, especially in the upper school, “said Prien.

  • The deadline for registering for the Abitur will be postponed by around seven weeks to March 19, 2021.
  • A voluntary withdrawal without crediting the maximum length of stay in the upper school is possible until immediately before the registration for the Abitur.
  • If, in individual cases, students do not register for the exam after compulsory advice, they switch to the Abitur class 2021/22.
  • In individual cases, students can decide whether to take their written Abitur examination in individual subjects on the rewriting date instead of the main date.
  • The speaking tests as part of the test in the written Abitur in English will be replaced by a recognition solution.
  • In the written central examination subjects, pupils have more options to choose from among the tasks to be worked on.
  • The working time in the centrally checked written subjects will be increased by 30 minutes.
  • The choices of the examinees in the subject of sport will be adapted: The intended practical examinations in two sports covered in the lesson can optionally be taken in two individual sports, an individual sport and a return game or an individual sport and a team sport.
  • In the written central examination subjects German, Mathematics and English, the students choose two of three subjects in which they take part in the written examination. In the subject in which no examination is taken, the annual grade is included in the final certificate.
  • The working time in the centrally checked written subjects will be increased by 30 minutes.
  • The speaking test as part of the test in the written ESA / MSA in English is omitted. This applies accordingly to the oral part of the language of origin exam, if this was chosen as a substitute for English.
  • The central class work in year 9 is omitted.
  • In individual cases, students can decide whether to withdraw from participating in the MSA or from taking the ESA exam. The same applies to the pupils in the 9th grade. This declaration can be made until March 19, 2021. The pupils then immediately enter the year below.
  • If the examination results of all students in an examination subject deviate significantly downwards compared to the last three pre-pandemic years, the school supervisory authority can adjust the grades
