Schleswig-Holstein to Receive 136 Million Euros for Early Childhood Education from Federal Government

Kiel (dpa/lno). Schleswig-Holstein will receive a total of around 136 million euros for early childhood education from the federal government this year and next. The federal and state family ministers, Lisa Paus and Aminata Touré (both Green), signed an agreement on Thursday to implement the daycare quality law.

“Against the background of the shortage of skilled workers, after the experiences of the corona pandemic and with the knowledge of the importance of early childhood education, investments in the day-care center area are more important than ever,” explained Paus according to a statement. The money will be used, among other things, for a good specialist-child key. This should ensure a good quality of care and individual support for children and also help to improve the working conditions of the skilled workers.

“Early childhood education and care have the highest priority for me because they are crucial for more equal opportunities and participation for children,” said Touré. “For us as a state, it is important that the federal government makes a significant contribution to the financing beyond 2024, at least to the same extent.” With the federal funds, the state can maintain a care key of two specialists per elementary group.
