A joint report by several Western media shows an early migrant the Turkish-Bulgarian border. The investigators claim that the shot was fired from Bulgarian territory.
Footage from British TV channel Sky News and other media shows how illegal migrants storm the border fence. A shot is heard and one of them is injured.
According to the investigators, this is the first evidence of the use of firearms in the security of the European borders.
During their investigation, Sky News reporters also contacted the Bulgarian Interior Ministry.
The Bulgarian side is adamant that the Bulgarian border police did not shoot. A joint investigation between Bulgaria and Turkey is underway.
And they add that the group of migrants who complained about how they were shot showed aggression towards the Bulgarian border guards: they threw stones at them, broke their car and a security booth. There is also an injured policeman.
