Alappuzha: The man who extorted money from a young woman he met through a marriage site has been arrested. Pathanamthitta Perumbatti Thenayamplakal Sajikumar (47) was arrested. The arrest was made following a complaint filed by a native of Mavelikara who was the victim of a fraud.
Last day, the police took the groom Saji, surnamed Saji, from the Kottayam theater into custody. Saji’s scam began by befriending families of young women advertising on online matrimonial sites. The method is to extort hundreds of thousands of people by giving various reasons as credible.

Saji Mavelikara contacted the native after seeing an ad on a marriage site. Saji, who was in constant contact online, informed the woman that one day her luxury car had an accident and she needed two and a half rupees to fix it. After saying that she would return it immediately, the Mavelikkara native sent the money to Saji. But after receiving the money, Saji cut off contact with the woman. When the phone calls and messages stopped, the young woman realized she was being haunted.
The woman filed a police report when she could not find Saji. The police registered a case on the woman’s complaint and she was investigating. Meanwhile, the woman handed over the selfie Saji had sent her to the police. The shirt worn by the defendant in this selfie became important evidence in the case.

Police said they extorted money from many women in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts by promising marriage. Police traced Saji’s mobile number and seized him from a rented house in Natakam under the limits of Kottayam Chingawanam Police Station.
