Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) does not only rely on the Covid-19 vaccine made by Sinovac Biotech China to fight the corona. Indonesia will rely on the red and white vaccine.
The red and white vaccine is a vaccine made in the country. This corona vaccine uses the Indonesian Covid-19 strain and is currently being developed by the Eijkman Bio Molecular Institute (LBM).
Head of LBM Eijkman Amin Soebandrio said that his party is targeting to deliver vaccine seeds to the industry in February or March 2020. After that, clinical trials in phases one, two and three will be carried out.
“So when Eikjman is finished, Bio Farma can immediately process it without too many adjustments. This platform has been mastered and known by the industry in this case by Bio Farma,” he said in an interview with CNBC Indonesia, as quoted Monday (24/8/2020 ).
Clinical trials are the testing of vaccines in animals and humans to find the benefits and effectiveness of vaccines in fighting disease. After the clinical trial is complete, permission will be requested from the Indonesian health authorities to obtain a distribution permit.
“The first injection (phase one clinical trial) is likely the second trimester of 2021 and [uji klinis] predicted to be completed by the end of 2021 and mass production [vaksin] in early 2022, “explained Amin Soebandrio.
