Filip Salač got a great second place in the shortened rainy Moto2 race in Thailand.
Due to the rain, the Moto2 race was shortened by a third to 16 laps and the start was delayed by five minutes.
After starting from 12th position, the Czech driver made an excellent start when he moved up to third position and was constantly fighting for the podium for the rest of the race.
The difficult conditions led to a series of falls. The undisputed leader of the race, local driver Somkiat Čantra, also fell to the ground. Meanwhile, Salač managed to reach second position on lap five and in a short time the Czech driver also took the lead. Furthermore, he began to leave his pursuers him.
At the end of the eighth lap, the Italian Toni Arbolino overtook him, after which the race was stopped. The expected restart did not take place due to the downpour and the pressure of the times and only half points were distributed. Salač was thus able to move up to the second highest step, which is his best result in Moto2 and equaled last year’s second place at Le Mans in Moto3.
