Ryanair will pay millions of euros in fines

The low-cost airline did not refund tickets for canceled flights after June 3, 2020. EasyJet and Volotea also received penalties

The Italian Competition and Market Authority fined the Irish airline Ryanair 4.2 million euros for not refunding tickets for canceled flights after June 3, 2020. This is reported by the newspaper The Republic on Monday, May 24th.

It is indicated that the antitrust authority has recognized this practice as unfair after the relaxation of restrictions on movement in force in connection with the coronavirus pandemic.

The newspaper points out that earlier two other low-cost airlines – British EasyJet and Spanish Volotea – were penalized in the amount of 2.8 million euros and 1.4 million euros, respectively. According to the regulator, these companies, under the pretext of a pandemic, continued to cancel flights, tickets for which, in particular, were sold at a discounted price. At the same time, the cost of tickets was not refunded, but vouchers for future travel were offered.

In addition, Ryanair was convicted of conducting an inappropriate advertising campaign against consumers, providing inaccurate or false information about the possibility of exchanging a ticket without penalties.

Previously discharged in Italy maximum penalty for violation of quarantine… In the city of Pescara, a young man on the beach tried to escape from law enforcement officers when they approached him, but the police caught up with him and issued a fine of 4,000 euros.
