Tennis player Yekaterina Alexandrova beat Swiss Jill Taykhman in the first round of the Australian Open. The match ended with a score of 6: 4, 4: 6, 6: 2. In the second round, Aleksandrova will play with Czech Barbora Kreichikova.
Two more Russians – Anna Kalinskaya and Anastasia Potapova – failed to qualify for the next round of the tournament. Kalinskaya lost to Chinese Zheng Saysai (3: 6, 2: 6), Potapova to American Serena Williams (0: 6, 3: 6).
The Australian Open will last until February 2.
