Weak TV quota: Six million see cup finals

The DFB Cup final is no longer a street sweeper: only six million TV viewers watched the match between Leipzig and Frankfurt.
Berlin. The renewed triumph of RB Leipzig In the DFB Cup final on Saturday evening, an average of 6.00 million viewers watched the ZDF live broadcast. The 2:0 (0:0) against Eintracht Frankfurt gave the broadcaster a market share of 27.9 percent. The encounter also ran parallel to the pay-TV channel Sky.

This number of viewers is a minus record in this millennium. A similarly weak TV quota was last seen in 2004, when Werder Bremen the second division Alemannia Aachen had defeated 3:2 – but at that time there were still more people watching, the quota was 6.74 million. In all four finals with the participation of RB Leipzig, the TV ratings no longer cracked the 10 million mark – between 2010 and 2019 this was still common.
In the 2:3 (2:0) in the women’s Champions League final in the afternoon between VfL Wolfsburg and FC Barcelona, an average of 2.00 million tuned in, also on ZDF (MA: 22.2). The final of Europe’s football crown was also broadcast on the DAZN streaming service.
