jpnn.com, WASHINGTON – Russian surveillance aircraft turned out to be powerless to penetrate US air defenses. Yesterday, Saturday (27/6), US fighter jets (US) managed to intercept four Russian aircraft off the coast of Alaska.

The North American Space Defense Command (NORAD) wrote on its Twitter account that US F-22 fighter jets, supported by tankers and control aircraft and early warning, intercepted four Russian Tu-142 reconnaissance aircraft that entered the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone ( ADIZ) on Saturday.

“Russian aircraft are in international airspace and do not enter US sovereign airspace,” NORAD said.

According to NORAD, Tu-142 flew 65 nautical miles south of the Alaska Aleutian island chain and stayed around ADIZ for nearly eight hours.

The interception came after NORAD fighter jets intercepted two Russian Il-38 maritime patrol aircraft that entered the Alaska ADIZ on Wednesday (24/6) last night.

NORAD has identified and intercepted Russian military aircraft so far this year on 10 separate occasions when they flew in the ADIZ region.

NORAD is a two-state organization, the US and Canada, which is tasked with conducting aerospace warning missions, aerospace control, and maritime warnings for the North American region. (Xinhua / ant / dil / jpnn)
