Russia will not be allowed to enter the EU freely even after July 1 – Abroad – News

There are signs that an agreement will be reached between the countries of the European Union on strict criteria for the planned lifting of entry restrictions in the future, reports the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”. Accordingly, travelers from countries such as the US, Russia and Brazil will only be allowed to enter the EU after the end of this month in exceptional cases.

The current entry restrictions could only be lifted in July for people from around a dozen countries, such as South Korea or New Zealand. The list of countries and compromise proposals drawn up at ambassadorial level have yet to be approved in only a few European Union capitals. Ideally, the final decision could be made next Monday.

In the future, the number of new Covid-19 infections in the last two weeks will be decisive in easing entry restrictions in the European Union. The overall trend of recent weeks and the country’s response to the pandemic will also be assessed.

In particular, the number of new infections per 100 000 population in the last two weeks is expected to be “close to or below 16”, as is currently the EU average. The trend for new cases over the same period should be “stable or declining” compared to the previous 14 days. The national assessment will take into account how the contacts of infected people are monitored, the number of tests performed and the measures taken to control the infection.
