Russia is losing its biggest arms buyer. Fighters and helicopters hit under the knife

India froze talks on helicopters and aircraft after seeing their low effectiveness and high vulnerability in real combat conditions in Ukraine.

Because of this, Russia continues to rapidly lose ground in the arms market to India, which has been the Kremlin’s largest arms buyer since Soviet times, and in recent years provided 20% of Rosoboronexport’s orders. India has frozen negotiations on the purchase of Ka-226T helicopters, Vladimir Drozhzhov, deputy head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation of Russia, said in an interview with Russian Interfax. And it seems that this is a technical ploy not to sign the contract.

As a result, the intergovernmental agreement on the purchase of 200 helicopters worth $1 billion and the deal on the purchase of Su-30MKI fighters have been completely halted and are not being implemented. To get out of this situation, Russia offered India kits for the production of aircraft on its territory for $ 1.4 billion, but this offer did not interest India either.

The reason for the drop in demand is that Russian weapons have proven to be ineffective in modern warfare.

“Demand for Russian weapons is also falling after the whole world saw them in action in Ukraine: the war dealt a huge blow to the reputation of Russian suppliers,” says Mark Green, president of the American Wilson Center and former ambassador. All this motivates us to ask the Kremlin again: is the operation going according to plan? And you don’t need an answer. This is a rhetorical question, and everything is clear to everyone
