Russia immediately evacuated its diplomatic staff from Ukraine. This decision after the MPs Russia allowing President Vladimir Putin to use force abroad.
“In order to protect the lives and safety of (diplomaters), the Russian leadership decided to evacuate the personnel of the Russian foreign mission in Ukraine, which will be carried out in the near future,” the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement. AFPWednesday (23/2/2022).
Russia’s foreign ministry said its diplomats had received threats. The Russian embassy in Ukraine and its consulates are under pressure.
“Ukraine has fallen deeper into chaos,” the statement said.
A number of Western embassies have been moved from Kyiv to the city of Lviv near the Polish border, as the US and its allies have accused Russia for months of plotting an attack on Ukraine.
The announcement of the evacuation came shortly after Russia’s upper house of parliament gave Putin permission to use Russian troops abroad.
President Putin on Monday (21/2) recognized the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk controlled by eastern Ukrainian separatists as independent territories and signed an agreement with them. That opened the door to a Russian military presence in Ukraine.
