Krefeld / Rhine District Neuss / Mönchengladbach / District Viersen / District Kleve. The police in the Rhine districts of Neuss, Krefeld, Mönchengladbach and in the districts of Viersen and Kleve also took part in the Europe-wide campaign called “ROADPOL Safety Days”, which was mainly initiated to combat distraction in road traffic.

Rhein-Kreis Neuss: Police make motorists aware of the dangers in road traffic

The traffic service in Neuss carried out a large-scale inspection on Batteriestraße on Wednesday (16 September) from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. In just under five hours, the officers stopped 20 drivers who were using their cell phones. A fine of 100 euros and a point in the register of fitness to drive are stipulated for this violation.

During the inspection, the officers did not only focus on the use of electronic devices while driving. The traffic service also withdrew 22 drivers who were not wearing seat belts. A warning fee of 30 euros is provided for a seat belt that is not worn. In the car of a 31-year-old, the experts from the traffic service discovered impermissible changes to the car, which ultimately led to the expiry of the operating license. The Neusser now has to pay a fine of 90 euros.

In addition to other punished violations, for example due to red light disregard or insufficient load securing, the officers also noticed a scooter driver who did not have a license to drive his two-wheeler. The man had to continue on his way on foot for another reason: the 42-year-old was apparently under the influence of drugs, so that a blood sample had to be taken from him in the hospital. Driving under the influence of narcotics entails at least a severe fine. Anyone who takes part in road traffic under the influence of narcotics endangers themselves and others. The first violation of this type threatens a fine of 500 euros as well as two points in “Flensburg” and a driving ban for one month.

The risk of accidents when driving a motor vehicle does not only increase with the consumption of drugs or alcohol. Even when making a phone call, the potential for distraction is as high as when driving with more than 0.8 per thousand alcohol in the blood. Don’t be careless! No WhatsApp, no Instastory, no voice message and no phone call are so important that you risk your own life and endanger others.

On Batteriestrasse in Neuss, the police punished a total of 56 traffic violations. In parallel to this control, speed measurements were carried out on the federal highway 201 near the island of Hombroich during the same period. 83 drivers did not adhere to the prescribed maximum speed of 70 kilometers per hour.

The police in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss will continue to carry out regular checks in the future, for more safety on the roads in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss and throughout Europe. Preventive project “Crash Course” in Mönchengladbach school

The Europe-wide ROADPOL Safety Days began yesterday with the aim of reducing the number of fatal road accidents. The Mönchengladbach police also participated – so that the streets of our city do not become a death trap for anyone.

To achieve this goal, the Mönchengladbach police carried out both traffic controls with a focus on “distraction” and the “Crash Course” prevention project.

During the day, police officers checked over 150 vehicles at six different checkpoints. The number of violations was almost as high: 110 drivers had to pay warning fines or reports of administrative offenses, depending on the situation. These included 33 drivers and two cyclists who had used their mobile phones while driving. For three other drivers, the check each ended with a criminal complaint because they did not have a valid driver’s license.

In addition, the police carried out the preventive project “Crash Course” – a collaboration between the police, fire brigade, emergency doctors, pastors and victims of serious accidents – in a school. There, the team shared their own dramatic experiences with the students, true to the motto “Experience reality. Really hard. ” To sensitize them sincerely and realistically to the dangers that threaten themselves and others in the event of distraction or similar behavior in traffic.

Priority checks in the Viersen district

Yesterday, Wednesday, the Viersen police took part in the ROADPOL Safety Days. From 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., numerous emergency services checked road users in the entire district with the subject of ‘distraction in traffic’. Car and truck drivers as well as cyclists and pedelec drivers were checked. The preventive character of the controls came first. Because: “Just just …” looking at the display can lead to a dangerous situation. At 50 km / h, if you look at your cell phone for 2 seconds, you can fly almost 30 meters blind. No message, no phone call is so important that you have to endanger your own life or that of others. The balance of yesterday’s controls: around 130 checked car trucks and cyclists, 31 punished violations for using a mobile phone. There were also numerous warnings for other violations. The emergency services initiated nine fine proceedings and filed a criminal complaint against a moped driver on suspicion of violating the compulsory insurance law.

Balance on the day of action in the Kleve district

After the end of the mission, colleagues from the Kleve district police checked 568 cars, 84 trucks and 98 cyclists or pedelec riders. 48 road users were found using a cell phone while driving. The number of other violations such as not wearing a seat belt rose to 94 warning fines and nine fines. It remained with a criminal complaint because of driving without a driver’s license.

Krefeld: Balance of the traffic controls

From 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., officials checked the entire Krefeld city area on the subject of ‘distraction in traffic’.

Because: Too many accidents still happen because drivers are distracted. If you look at your mobile phone for a second at 50 km / h, you will be flying blind for 15 meters.

Here is the result: 229 vehicles were checked. Of these, 55 car drivers, six truck drivers and eight cyclists used a cell phone while driving. (ots)
