RIVM reports 8,184 positive tests, 28 percent more than last week | NOW

The RIVM reports 8,184 positive corona tests on Sunday. That’s an increase of about 28 percent from last week; then 6,378 positive corona tests were reported.

In addition, another fifteen people died from the effects of the virus. Last week, seventeen positively tested people died.

This does not mean that these corona patients have all died or tested positive in the last 24 hours. The information is sometimes passed on to RIVM with a delay.

The number of positive tests has been increasing rapidly within the Netherlands since mid-September. The negative milestone of 200,000 positive tests has now been passed. Although there is also a lot more testing, the RIVM suspects that the increase in corona figures is due to less compliance with the basic rules and corona measures.

Since Sunday, no Dutch municipality is corona-free anymore. Schiermonnikoog was the last corona-free municipality, but on Sunday the mayor announced that one resident of the Wadden Island has been tested positive for the virus.

No IC patients moved to Germany yet

The number of corona patients in hospitals included, has increased by 84 to 1,652. Last week, there were 1,233 corona patients in the hospital.

The number of IC admissions (12) fell slightly compared to the previous day (15). There are now 364 IC beds occupied by corona patients. The majority of the admitted COVID-19 patients (1,288) are treated in regular wards.

According to chairman Ernst Kuipers of the National Network Acute Care (LNAZ), there is still sufficient capacity on the Dutch ICs, so that no patients have yet been moved to Germany. Kuipers previously expected that the first patients would be transferred this Saturday.
