RIVM reports 6,093 positive tests, 19 percent more than this week’s average | NOW

The RIVM reports 6,093 positive corona tests on Saturday. That is 19 percent more than this week’s average (5,104).

We compare the number of positive tests with the average of last week (Monday to Friday), because the GGDs had to deal with an IT outage on Wednesday, affecting reported numbers of several days.

It is the first time this week that the number of positive tests in one day has exceeded 6,000. Thursday and Friday it concerned more than 5,700 and 5,900 positive tests respectively.

The number of corona-related deaths rose by 48 on Saturday. However, that does not mean that all these people died in the past 24 hours. An almost equal number was reported on Friday: 51.

Number of corona patients in hospitals continues to decline

The number of corona patients in hospitals has decreased again. On Friday the total corona capacity decreased by 69 patients, on Saturday 59 hospital beds became available. There are now 1,902 corona patients in the hospital.

550 of them are in an intensive care unit. That number has increased slightly from Friday, when 547 IC beds were occupied by COVID-19 patients. In the past 24 hours, hospitals have moved eleven corona patients, four of whom are IC patients, between regions.
